What does Mr Beans and an orthodox Muslim have in common? Ethical humour.

Regardless of the fake news, may this message reach Rowan Atkins. The post was written assuming he has died: Quran talks about exploring commonalities with your audience. I vividly remember the day of my youth when my orthodox father called us to his bedroom during the unexpected sunnah time of afternoon nap to share with us something important: Mr Beans. But what appealed to him in this century when political scientists with imperial mindsets declare a clash of civilizations. It was ethical humour which I think is a universal value as effective in outreach as interfaith and intercultural dialogue. Although on close scrutiny an ultra orthodox Muslim would find the naked Mr Beans at the pool objectionable like the angry face he made towards the sky at a funeral but his humour did not habitually employ modern sexual revolution or modern atheist blasphemy. Although he appeared to be a secular person but I would blame it on intellectual and moral failures of Christianity.

Quran 16:66 and Dysphagia

The word saighan is related to comfort of swallowing in context of milk.

What is dysphagia?

The parts of the mouth and neck involved in swallowing are the tongue, pharynx or throat, larynx or voice box, esophagus or food channel, and trachea or windpipe.

People with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may even experience pain while swallowing (odynophagia). Some people may be completely unable to swallow or may have trouble safely swallowing liquids, foods, or saliva. When that happens, eating becomes a challenge. Often, dysphagia makes it difficult to take in enough calories and fluids to nourish the body and can lead to additional serious medical problems.

Did God know Himself before big bang?

big-bang-wallpaper

I asked the Prophetic descendant (p) , ‘Did God, the Majestic, the Glorious, know
Himself before He created the creation?’” He replied, “Yes, He knew Himself.” I
further asked, “Did He see and hear His Own Self?” He replied, “God did not need
such things because He did not ask or demand it. He is His Own self and His Own self is He. His power is dominant and He does not need to name His Own self. He chose His Own name for the sake of others so they can call Him. Until one is not called by means of his names he is not recognized. The fist name He chose for His Own self was the Most
High, the Great because He is above all things. It then means that Allah and His name al-‘Ali al-‘Azim is His first name. The Most High, He is above all things.

Islam and sex positive religions

Sex positive religions end up sexualising spirituality instead of spiritualising intimacy. I think Islam achieves that without sexualising spirituality. Hadith teaches that the best transient happiness in this world is being intimate with a spiritual wife. Even the infinite bliss in the next world is sensual in nature which western Christians criticize because they believe in an asexual heaven.

Prophetic praxis of sunnah and traditional/modern narcissism

A modernist Muslim calls beating children and homophobia ignorant:

Those who beat children represent traditional narcissism and Sunnah cures it which teaches that ideal faith is not possible without being an ideal parent.

Those who support homosexual defiance represent modern narcissism and Sunnah also cures it through an enabling culture of self-directed neuroplasticity.

Worldly wife and husband and Paradise

Tafsir Al-Bahrani Quran 55:46

The disciple asked the Prophetic descendant(p) : If both a believing  man and woman enter Paradise will they marry each other. He said: God is just. If the husband were superior/afdal to her in piety and virtue , he will be given choice to marry her or not and if the wife were superior to him in piety and virtue , she will be given choice to marry him or not.

Islam and sleeping on your stomach

It was narrated from Qais bin Tihfah Al-Ghifari that his father said:
“The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) found me sleeping in the masjid on my stomach. He nudged me with his foot and said: ‘Why are you sleeping like this? This is a kind of sleep that Allah dislikes,’ or ‘that Allah hates.'”
Is it bad to sleep on your stomach? The short answer is “yes.”

VS Naipaul, Islam and Quran 14:4

The divisive struggle between local traditional identity and universal spiritual identity in the Indian sub-continent will pave the way for modern secular imperial globalization so intra-subcontinental harmony is important. His critique about the effect of Islam on native cultural identity is based on ambivalent attitude in Islam to native Arab culture which has given rise to secular Arab nationalism in modern times and Hindu nationalism has many alliances with it because pious Muslim identity is seen as a threat to Hindu nationalism. For example, in Islam there is an ambivalence about the poetic tradition which is the literary basis of the musical tradition. Quran critcizes poets for lack of objectivity in seeking truth. Even western Kierkegaard commented on it that he identified himself more with poetry than Prophetic truth. But there are Prophetic aphorisms about wise forms of poetry which is of course exception rather than rule. Quality reduces quantity. So, the goal of these commandments is to evolve a higher ethical and more objective form of poetry which fulfills both intellectual and psychological needs of humanity. Iqbal tried to achieve that but of course he is not a personality of consensus. So, what is needed is more objective and philosophical form of literature in the sub-continent. Or at least modern forms of Sufi poetry and music, liked by many Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims alike, show that there are Muslims who feel the need to address the native cultural identity. But it also needs intellectual underpinning to make it a part of public Indian discourse. Quran 14:4 is an important verse which tells the faithful to keep in mind the psychological and linguistic background of the intended audience.
