Neo orthodoxy vs neurotic mysticism

Islamism is a pejorative for authentic self aware modern educated pious Muslims. Isn’t intelligent neo orthodoxy preferable to pro supernatural neurotic mystic sentimentality, in terms of potential of becoming interfaith, intra faith and intercultural bridges?
